When using the advanced search, you have the possibility to define a search mode.

This article lists the available modes and explains their use.

  • All the words
This mode is used to find items containing two or more keywords. The words can be followed by the symbol "&".
Example: with this mode, if you search for the terms Eiffel Tower or the terms Tower & Eiffel, the results will return items containing the terms Eiffel Tower but also Tower Eiffel.

  • Any word
This mode enables you to find at least one or more keywords. The words can be followed by a "|".
Example: with this mode, if you search for the terms Eiffel Tower or Tower | Eiffel, the results will return items containing the words Eiffel Tower, Eiffel and Tower.

  • Exact sentence
This mode enables you to find items containing two or more keywords in a specific order. The words can be enclosed in inverted commas.
Example: with this mode, if you search for the terms Eiffel Tower or "Eiffel Tower", the results will return items containing the words Eiffel Tower in exactly that order.

  • Advanced syntax
This mode enables you to mix all the different search operators in a single query.
Example: with this mode, if you search for the terms "Cathedral Paris|Brussels|London", you will obtain all the objects containing the word cathedral and, optionally, the word Paris, Brussels or London.
