    Hello,
I had the same situtation with a ancient greek coin and I had made a confirmation with a specialized "Cabinet des médailles" in Lausanne which they have a museum.
So, I think you should make the same with starting with a telephone
and then you will send it to them.
My ancient coin is a very rare and so they had no problems to tell me that it was a fake as they make a lot of them.
Mine I should sell it about 10 € as it is in silver.
But about yours, it cant be a fake one as it has old marks or marks of a used coin. Mine was at was never circulated and close as it was polished.

Well that's it and I hope I was concluant.

    Phil

P.S. : I am sorry for the mistakes but I am a french speaker.

    Hello again,
Some ancient coins was never circulated or very less as it was part of a treasury.
May be the treasury of the army or the state.

Can fake coins still be made to look worn?

Mine has a couple cracks does this happen on the fakes?

Also the wieght of mine is not as heavy as the shekel being sold on the site you mention. Mine is 7.6g there shekel is 14g. My coin is heavier than the 1/2 shekel which is about 6g so could I have a different one? Mine as you say is more worn I was concerned the wear showed it was a fake/pewter coin

    Thanks for your help anyway

I have no knowledge of coins at all, but if in doubt could you take it to a local auction house (preferably one that specializes in coins or has a "coin specific" section in their general auctions) and ask for an opinion/valuation. Many auction houses will do this for free.
