On August 23, 1958, an artillery battle broke out on the offshore island of Quemoy (Kinmen) on an unprecedented scale. Under leadership of the late President Chiang Kai-shek(CKS), armed forces and the people on the island united as one in the face of the Chinese communists. Fighting side by side, they defeated the enemy, winning a glorious victory.
