On this Monday, September 28, CTT will presented a philatelic broadcast celebrating the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (UN). The UN currently has 193 member states and serves as a global forum in which countries can discuss humanity's most complex issues, including problems related to war and peace.
In this year that celebrates 75 years, the UN launched the "UN75" initiative, which aims to promote a deep reflection on international cooperation and the role of the UN in the future. The United Nations was officially founded on October 24, 1945, the day on which the United Nations Charter was ratified by the Soviet Union, the Republic of China, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and most other signatories. Despite the sharp divisions that were at its origin and those arising during the Cold War period, the UN continued to grow and remain faithful to its mission, which is increasingly relevant in the face of the enormous transformations that the world and the population face in the 20th century.
According to António Ferrari, Communication Advisor for Portugal, “over the past decades, the organization has helped to end numerous conflicts and to promote reconciliation in several countries. In addition to maintaining international peace and security, the United Nations also protects human rights and the environment, provides humanitarian aid, promotes sustainable development and upholds international law. ”
Over the course of its 75 years of existence, the United Nations, together with its specialized agencies, funds, programs and officials have been awarded eleven times with the Nobel Peace Prize.
This philatelic issue is made up of two stamps with a circulation of 100,000 copies each and face values of € 0.91 and € 2.00. The illustrations were in charge of João Machado and the design was in charge of MAD Activities. The first day's obliterations will be made at Restauradores stores in Lisbon, Municipality II in Porto, Zarco in Funchal and Antero de Quental in Ponta Delgada.
