TELEGRAPH STAMPS & HISTORY. A BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION informatively written-up and nicely presented includes postage & telegraph stamps, forms and other documents and items telling the important story of the telegraph services in India. The telegraph stamps include the 1869-78 1a (2), 2a, 8a & 25r reddish- lilac Die II mint wholes (SG T4-17) plus used halves to 50r, 1881 1a, 2a & 4a opt'd "Telegraph" halves, 1890 1a, 2a & 4a mint wholes plus halves to 50r; the rare 1900 2r purple opt'd "Telegraph" unused whole (SG T53), 1904 complete set of fine used whole stamps (SG T56/65) also 1a & 2a unused; 1904 surcharges set mint whole stamps (SG T66/68), there is much else besides including Indian postage stamps with telegraph cancellations, a good number of telegraph forms from different companies with an interesting historical write- ups of each, we see a 1927 (December) telegraph form with a message from "their Highnesses" thanking His loyal subject for the welfare recently extended to them (needs research, possibly related to the Royal visit to Australia that year), other documents bearing stamps & half telegraph stamps with some spectacular combinations, a very rare 1865 "Indo-European Telegraph Department / Telegraphic Despatch" printed cover from Karachi to Bombay, some more recent items include the 1951 Telegraph Centenary souvenir sheet. Condition varied on the earlier issues as usual with creasing on some of the large stamps but fresh and attractive throughout and ever-so interesting!
