1924 Germany, Junkers Air Post First Flight of Berlin - Dessau - Constantinople (Istanbul) - Angora (Ankara)

Michel Nr. 12

Original flight was scheduled 5/6.7.1924 destined to Istanbul, and was immediately extended next day to Ankara.

Franked with 2x20pf Blue Wood Pigeon Air Post stamps, each bears 4.7.1924 Berlin CDS.

Special commemorative circular cancellation on light blue Air Mail label inscribed "Erster Flug (First Flight) / Berlin 5.7.24 / Berlin - Angora" on the front.

On reverse side, there are 2 arrival CDS, one for Istanbul on 6.7.1924 in latin script in French, other for Ankara on 7.7.1924 in arabic script. Also on reverse is special commemorative circular cancellation "First Trip / Angora 7.7.24 / Berlin - Angora".

Trivia:
Extension of the flight from Istanbul onwards to Ankara caused a minor diplomatic incident since it was unofficial and it was claimed that Turkish mail charges should have been levied on the covers carried by the aircraft.

Total flying time of the journey was 27 hours and the aircraft was piloted by Herr D. Zimmerman
