43rd Christoph Gärtner Auction - February 20th, 2019 - Europe, Germany, Picture Postcards

1867 (28. Juli), Kolorierte Lithographie "Helgoland - vom Meere gesehen" (von D.M. Kanning in Hamburg) als Illustration eines vierseitigen Briefes von 'Rudolf' and seine Mutter, welcher von seiner Fahrt auf der "Helgoland" von Hamburg nach Helgoland berichtet. So erzählt er von einer stürmischen Fahrt die Elbe hinab bis zur Nordsee, wobei sein Reisegefährte Heinrich auf vier Stühlen schlief, was er in einer kleinen Zeichnung darstellt. Auf der Nordsee wurde es dann richtig stürmig mit einer großen Welle, die über das Vorschiff hereinbrach (eine entsprechende Zeichnung von Rudolf auf der Rückseite seines Briefes), und somit benötigten sie statt der 6-7 Stunden ganze 12 Stunden nach Helgoland. Ausserdem berichtet er u.a. davon, dass er gerade 2 und 6 Schilling-Marken in den Helgolandfarben grün, rot und weiß kaufte etc. Ein kompletter, höchst attraktiver und interessanter Brief. ÷ 1867 (28th July), Coloured lithographed letterhead image 'View of Helgoland from the water' on four-page letter from 'Rudolf' to his mother. He described his ship voyage from Hamburg to Helgoland on the steamer "Helgoland", with detailed report of the stormy weather on the Elbe and the North Sea, with small sketches by Rudolf of his friend Heinrich sleeping on four chairs (page 2) and a 'freak wave' breaking down on the ship's bow (page 4) etc. He also reported that he bought some 2 and 6 Shilling stamps in Helgoland's colours green, red and white. (These first stamps were issued about 4 months ago.) A complete, most attractive, interesting and scarce letter.
