43rd Christoph Gärtner Auction - February 20th, 2019 - Europe, Germany, Picture Postcards

1914, Einschreibebrief ab "PARIS 12.10.14" adressiert and den Postmeister in Jaluit/Marshall-Inseln. Bedingt durch den Kriegszusand wurde der Brief angehalten, zensiert mit entsprechenden Zensurstreifen und div. Zensurstempeln/hs. Vermerken sowie retourniert. Zwei Tage nach Aufgabe des Briefes, am 14.10.14, kapitulierten die deutsche Kolonie vor den Alliierten Truppen. Absender war Alfred Forbin, ein Briefmarkenhändler, der sich auf Fiskalmarken spezialisiert hatte und einen Katalog herausgab, der noch heute sehr nützlich ist. ÷ 1914, Registered letter from "PARIS 12.10.14" addressed to the Postmaster General at Jaluit/Marshall Islands. Due to outbreak of WW I the letter was consequentially stopped, opened/resealed, several censor marks/ms. endorsements were applied and the entire returned. Two days after the letter was posted, on 14 Oct 1914, the Marshall Island surrendered to Allied Forces. Sender was Alfred Forbin, a stamp dealer who focussed on fiscal stamps and edited a catalogue of worldwide fiscal stamps which is still very helpful today.

Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
