1849 Ceres 1fr. carmine and 20c. black used on entire letter from Lauterbourg to Rondout, NEW YORK via Le Havre, both tied by black grill h/s, "LAUTERBOURG/16/NOV/49" despatch c.d.s., red "NEW YORK/SHIP/JAN 9/7 cts." arrival datestamp, red boxed "PD" and circled "6" in red on front, red "BUREAU MARITIME HAVRE/19/NOV/49" transit c.d.s. on the reverse. Both stamps fresh and with four margins, a light horiz. cover fold affecting lower part of the 20c. otherwise fine. A VERY RARE COMBINATION FRANKING ON AN EARLY TRANS-ATLANTIC COVER FROM FRANCE. Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
Generous viewing and storage rooms, a private auction hall, enough parking space and an underground car park are available.
