\Y NEW SOUTH WALES\Y CROSS- BORDER PROVISIONAL USE. 1860 (8 Oct) EL from Ipswich in Queensland to the Manager, Australian Joint Bank (this ink obscured), Tenterfield, NSW. Instead of a Queensland stamp a NSW 1854 6d olive- grey imperf has been tied by a light "87" dotted numeral pmk with Ipswich (8 Oct), Warwick (11 Oct) and Maryland (13 Oct) transit cds's on reverse. This cover bears the 6d inter-colony rate. Despite the relatively short distance between theses small towns both were clearly on different sides of the border and this cover had to cross a mountain range twice to complete what must have been an arduous journey.
