Je vous propose ces 3 médailles commémoratives des 12emes Jeux Olympiques d'été qui devaient se dérouler à Helsinki en Finlande en 1940 et qui ont été annulés en raison de la seconde guerre Mondiale.

Ces 3 médailles ont été mises en coffret de présentation plus tard afin de les écouler et de financer le comité Olympique National Finlandais.

Sur la plaque de présentation d'un côté est inscrit: XII OLYMPIA Helsinki 1940 et de l'autre la devise Olympique: CITIUS-ALTIUS-FORTIUS.

Les médailles: 37 mm de diamètre pour un poids de 12g chacune. Le coffet plastique est fendu sur l'arrière (bande adhésive afin de le maintenir, voir photos).

Les plaque étant été détruites en 1947 il est impossible de fabriquer de nouvelles médailles. Elles deviennent donc de plus en plus rares. Un indispensable set pour tout collectionneur Olympique qui se respecte !

Un peu d'histoire en Anglais pour nos amis non francophones et potentiels acheteurs:

Medals: On one side Helsinki olympic Stadium with inscription XII OLYMPIA HELSINKI 1940, other side running torchbearer with globe in background, inscription on the top XII OLYMPIA 1940 HELSINGFORS.

The Games were originally scheduled to be held in Tokyo (Japan), but several countries planned to boycott the Games and then Japan itself decided the Games would be a distraction to their military goals.

The Games were then rescheduled to be held in Helsinki (Finland), but the beginning of World War II in 1939 caused the cancellation of the Games.

The preparations for the Olympic were done almost to the end when Finland had to join the war. So for example Olympic stadium and swimming stadium were ready, the accommodation buildings for the athletes were already built, memorabilia from different licensed vendors was partly produced, but... they were only a good exercise for the Olympics to be held in Helsinki 1952.

This full set includes the three medals ("old, Silver, Bronze). This set is very rare and the value is rising all the time.
