E. VanHende, Numismatique Lilloise ou description des monnaies, medailles, jetons ... (1858), p. 100-101:
En 1827, il parut à Lille une monnaie de cuivre étrange et toute neuve. Avec cette monnaie se répandit le bruit qu'elle avait été frappée par un de nos marchands de métaux. Des perquisitions faites à son domicile n'amenèrent aucun résultat compromettant mais le peuple prétendit que l'effigie représentait le duc de Reichstadt et qu'il y avait de la propagande politique dans cette affaire. La vérité était qu'un marchand de Liège avait vendu au sieur M*** pour 4 000 francs de ces liards (320 000 pièces), qui se glissèrent parmi toutes les petites pièces étrangères alors en circulation.
C'est donc à Lille que cette prétendue monnaie a pris cours, malgré son origine belge. Il s'agit d'une sorte de monnaie de confiance officieuse à circulation locale, un pseudo-liard ayant circulé parallèlement aux liards et aux pièces étrangères équivalentes comme moyen de paiement à Lille et dans sa région sous Charles X.
