Медаль «За освоение целинных земель» — учреждена указом Президиума Верховного Совета СССР от 20 октября 1956 г.

Медалью «За освоение целинных земель» награждаются колхозники, работники совхозов, МТС, строительных и других организаций, партийные, советские, профсоюзные и комсомольские работники за хорошую работу на освоении целинных и залежных земель в районах Казахстана, Сибири, Урала, Поволжья и Северного Кавказа.

К награждению медалью «За освоение целинных земель» представляются работники, проработавшие в районах освоения целинных и залежных земель, как правило, не менее двух лет.

Вручение медали «За освоение целинных земель» производится от имени Президиума Верховного Совета СССР председателями, заместителями председателей и членами Президиумов Верховных Советов автономных республик и исполнительных комитетов краевых, областных, районных и городских Советов депутатов трудящихся по месту жительства награжденных.

The medal "For the development of virgin lands" is awarded to collective farmers, workers of state farms, MTS, construction and other organizations, party, Soviet, trade union and Komsomol workers for good work in the development of virgin and fallow lands in the regions of Kazakhstan, Siberia, the Urals, the Volga region and the North Caucasus.

Employees who have worked in the areas of development of virgin and fallow lands, as a rule, for at least two years, are presented for awarding the medal "For the Development of Virgin Lands".

The medal "For the development of virgin lands" is presented on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR by the chairmen, deputy chairmen and members of the Presidiums of the Supreme Soviets of the autonomous republics and the executive committees of the regional, regional, district and city Soviets of workers' deputies at the place of residence of the awarded.
